Programs We Offer

Culture and Connection Guide Everything We Do

Higher rates of substance use in our urban Native communities are the direct result of centuries of federal policies that forced Native peoples to move from their reservations, and ancestral homelands, to cities across the U.S. These policies were designed to separate families and force assimilation. Our programs focus on reconnecting you with culture, and with each other, to help you heal.

Recovery Treatment Programs

It is our way as Native peoples to honor all life. We believe that you are worthy of healing no matter where you are in your recovery. We offer a combination of traditional medicines and ceremony, and evidence-based clinical services, including medication for addiction treatment. There is no one path to recovery and we are here to support your healing in all ways.

Adult Treatment Program

Our treatment program for adult men and women begins by changing your environment. We offer residential treatment up to 6 months in San Francisco, with an option of an additional 6 months of extended residential treatment. You will be immersed in Native cultural practices, offered traditional medicines, and have the latest treatment options available. You will also be among other Native people, staff and residents, who have experienced their own struggles with addiction and substance use. At Friendship House, you’re a part of a community of healing.

The Women’s Lodge

At the Women’s Lodge, moms of young children ages 0-5, and expectant mothers, receive community support and in-patient treatment in a setting that allows moms and their children to stay, and transform their lives, together.

Youth, Community & Culture Events

Friendship House began in 1963 with a vision that urban Indians deserved a place in San Francisco to call home. Since then, we’ve continued to offer community space for cultural programs, including youth pow wow dance classes, regalia making, tutoring, and mentoring.

The Village SF is a Holistic Approach to Native Health

Friendship House began as a place for spiritual connection and recovery. The Village SF is a home for everything you need for health and well-being. From social services and treatment programs, to healthcare and cultural space, the Village SF is our response to the diverse needs of our urban Indian community in San Francisco.
